Hedorah begins as a simple alien tadpole but metamorphoses through distinct stages driven by pollution consumption. Initially a sea monster, it gains the ability to move onto land in an amphibious form to feast on smoke from power stations and other industrial sources. As it absorbs more toxins, it evolves into a flying form and eventually its full, massive state. A critical trait of this creature is its regenerative capability; when pieces of its body are flung off during combat, they crawl back into the sea or ground to grow anew, making Hedorah effectively immortal unless completely eradicated. The monster's existence is defined by its acid, which acts as a corrosive force that dissolves anything it touches, turning urban environments into dead zones of bubbling toxicity.

In Their Own Story

The threat emerged when Hedorah sank an oil tanker and attacked Dr. Toru Yano, scarring the doctor with its toxic presence before vanishing into the public consciousness as a legend of pollution. As it moved toward a power station to consume chimney smoke, Godzilla confronted it in the water but was forced back when flung-off pieces of Hedorah regenerated, returning stronger than before. The monster escalated, assuming a flying form and then its full size, killing thousands across Japan. At Mount Fuji, amidst a despairing party celebrating the end of life, the final battle commenced. Godzilla quickly lost an eye and suffered severe chemical burns to his hand from direct contact with Hedorah's acidic blood. Overwhelmed, Godzilla was thrown into a pit where Hedorah attempted to drown him in a deluge of sludge. The tide turned when Dr. Yano and his wife determined that drying out the monster would destroy it. The JSDF constructed two gigantic electrodes, but they initially shorted out due to the violence of the battle. Godzilla reactivated them with his atomic breath, dehydrating Hedorah's exterior until its body split open. As the alien tried to escape in its flying form, Godzilla used his atomic breath as a jet propulsion system to chase it down, dragging it back to the electrodes. The acid was dehydrated into dust, disintegrating the remains completely.
