King Caesar is rooted in Okinawan tradition, represented in the film by a statue bearing his likeness that archaeologist Saeko Kaneshiro takes to study. An excavation led by Keisuke uncovers an ancient chamber filled with artifacts and a mural containing an ominous prophecy: "When a black mountain appears above the clouds, a huge monster will arise and try to destroy the world; but when the red moon sets and the sun rises in the west, two monsters shall appear to save the people." The statue is placed back in the temple to reveal Caesar's resting place. When Kuronuma dispatches Mechagodzilla, the priestess sings to awaken him. His awakening coincides with a lunar eclipse resulting in a red moon and a mirage of the sun rising in the west, fulfilling the prophecy that two monsters would appear to save the people.

In Their Own Story

The team realizes they must awaken Caesar after witnessing a lunar eclipse that produces a red moon and a mirage of the sun rising in the west. They meet with the priestess and her grandfather, placing the statue in the temple to reveal Caesar's resting place. As Kuronuma dispatches Mechagodzilla, the priestess sings to awaken him, and Godzilla arrives on the scene. The two monsters join forces to fight the mechanical foe. When Mechagodzilla attempts to escape, Godzilla creates an electromagnetic field to attract it before tearing off its head. With the enemy defeated, Caesar returns to his resting place while the humans rejoice.
